Our Year 6 students are excited to invite the Brighton Primary School & Centre of Deaf Education community to the Creative Commerce Convention (CCC) on Monday 29 June from 3:00pm–4:00pm on the school courts.

Families are encouraged to come along, browse the student stalls, and support our young entrepreneurs. A sausage sizzle will also be available on the day.
Please note: EFTPOS facilities will not be available. To help students manage sales and provide change, we strongly encourage visitors to bring coins and small notes where possible.

Weekly Wrap Up
Dear Families, Student Learning Forums are always one of the highlights of the week for our leaders. Throughout the term, we hold 25 forums, meeting with six students from every class across the school. These conversations provide a wonderful opportunity to hear directly from our learners about their experiences at school.
It is always inspiring to hear about the depth and breadth of learning taking place in our classrooms. Students confidently share what they are learning, how they learn best, what they are proud of, and the areas they are working to improve. It is particularly impressive to see even our youngest learners speaking so thoughtfully and confidently about their learning journey.
Our discussions also highlight the positive impact of our intentional teaching of our school values and our agreed learner dispositions. Students regularly refer to these as they explain how they approach challenges, work with others, and persevere when learning becomes difficult.
One theme that consistently shines through across every year level is the strong growth mindset our students have developed. They understand that mistakes are a valuable part of learning and see them as opportunities to grow rather than something to fear.
The Student Learning Forums continue to remind us just how capable, reflective, and curious our learners are. We are incredibly proud of the confidence they demonstrate and the enthusiasm they bring to their learning every day.
As we head into the final week of Term 2, we have plenty to look forward to. On Monday, our Year 6 students will showcase their creativity, teamwork and entrepreneurial skills at the Creative Commerce Convention, and later in the week our Year 2 students will take to the stage for their much anticipated musical performance at The Hopgood Theatre. We wish all of our students the very best as they share their talents and learning with our school community and look forward to celebrating these wonderful end of term events together.
Enjoy the weekend.
Warm Regards, Rebecca
Nature Play
On Monday, Mawson 1 and Mawson 2 visited Belair National Park for a cubby building session with Nature Play SA. They have been inquiring into shelters and living things. This excursion provided them with hands on opportunities to build small shelters for bandicoots before building big shelters for themselves. The students showed great teamwork and creativity and enjoyed eating their lunch in the shelters they created.

Success on the track
Pedal Prix last Friday was a fantastic experience! Our students showed incredible determination, powering through the cold and rain with grit and resilience in our second race of the season. We achieved some excellent results, finishing 5th, 10th, 20th, and 24th in the Primary School category. A special congratulations to our girls’ team, who finished first in the all-women’s category. What an outstanding achievement! Well done to all involved.
Foundation Community Mapping
Students in Mawson 3 and Mawson 4 have been very busy over the last two weeks designing and building a 3D map of our local Brighton community.
We began by brainstorming the special places within our community that students visit or use regularly. Some of these places included the Brighton jetty, the boardwalk, the Brighton Rugby and Football clubs and ovals, and of course, our school.
With their partners, students drew their special place and created a design of how they would build it using recycled materials. We invited our year 6 buddies to give students feedback on their designs to make important improvements. We then worked with expert, Meggie Presti who is a lecturer at Flinders University, to develop our construction and making skills.
During our Maths lessons next week, students will refer to Google Maps and order their special place buildings in the accurate position and location to finish off our 3D map.
This is the first major piece of work which the M3 and M4 students have developed that will be part of our Learning Expedition celebration of learning at the Brighton Public Library late next term.

Spence 4 Giving Back Through Community Action
As part of our Year 6 Learning Expedition, How has our community been shaped by people, place and migration - and how can we shape its future?, students recently participated in a Community Revegetation Project at the pocket park adjacent to McAuley Community School in partnership with the City of Holdfast Bay.
Throughout Term 2, students have explored the history of Brighton and Australia, investigated migration and community change, examined issues of fairness and belonging, and considered how individuals can contribute positively to their communities. The revegetation project provided an authentic opportunity for students to put this learning into action.
Working alongside council staff and community volunteers, students planted native species to help increase biodiversity and improve local habitat. They demonstrated outstanding responsibility, teamwork and enthusiasm throughout the afternoon and were highly praised by organisers and community members for their willingness to contribute and make a positive difference. It was wonderful to see our students engaging with members of the wider community and taking pride in improving a local space for future generations.
The revegetation project is one of several community-based experiences planned as part of the Learning Expedition. Next week, students will participate in a Beach Dune Care Project with the volunteer group Adopt a Spot, where they will investigate the impact of human activity on coastal environments and take part in a community clean-up along Brighton Beach.
As we move into Term 3, the focus of the expedition will shift towards Geography as students investigate how the Brighton community has been shaped by its unique coastal environment. Students will explore topics such as coastal change, biodiversity, environmental sustainability and human impact on local environments. Through fieldwork, community partnerships and authentic inquiry, students will continue to examine how people and place influence one another and consider how they can play an active role in shaping the future of our community.
We are incredibly proud of the way our students have embraced these opportunities and look forward to sharing more of their learning journey throughout the year.
