Weekly Wrap Up
Dear Families, this week, our Year 3–5 Student Hub Leaders and Year 6 Student Council Leaders had the exciting opportunity to work alongside Contemporary Aboriginal artist Scott Rathman to co-design a mural for the northern end of Tarni Warra.
Students shared ideas, stories and symbols that reflect our school values, community and what makes Brighton special Through this collaborative process, they gained valuable insights into Aboriginal culture and the role of art in storytelling.
We are excited to see the mural come to life and thank Scott for sharing his knowledge, creativity and expertise with our student leaders.
This project forms part of the Student Council Leaders' Positive Impact Project. The initiative encourages student leaders to make a meaningful contribution to our school and leave a lasting legacy for future students. The mural will serve as a lasting reminder of student voice, leadership and our commitment to reconciliation.
Today is a Student Free Day. Our staff are learners too, and today our team will be engaging in professional learning focused on the Zones of Regulation and strengthening our knowledge of Kaurna culture and language. We are fortunate to have Uncle Tamaru guide us on a walk through Warriparinga, where we will deepen our understanding of the cultural significance of this important local site.
Enjoy the long weekend.
Warm Regards, Rebecca
Wait Mate
Have you ever heard “but all of my friends have a phone!’ and wondered if this is true?
Wait Mate is a not for profit movement empowering parents to hit pause on smartphones until at least high school. They connect you with like-minded families in your child's school year who have taken the pledge to delay the giving of smartphones to their children. We already have parents in the Brighton school community who have taken the pledge.
Why take the pledge?
There are many reasons that are backed by research into effects of social media, building respectful relationships, childhood anxiety, addictive behaviours and lack of activity.
On 10 December 2025, the South Australian Government announced support for Wait Mate to help make the movement available to all parents of primary and high school students across the state. Have a look at what this means for all of us Bing Videos
