Celebrating Sporting Success
This year has been nothing short of outstanding for our students in school sport, with significant achievements, remarkable teamwork, and strong representation at district, state, and even national levels.
SAPSASA & State Carnivals
- Swimming Carnival (Term 1):
Eight talented swimmers qualified to compete at Immanuel College, with a special mention to Amaya F and Callum C who went on to represent the South West District at the State Championships. - Cross Country (Term 2):
Thirty one students qualified for Barrett Reserves, West Beach. Congratulations to Phoebe N, Zoe M, and Nina G, all selected to represent the South West District at States. - Athletics Carnival (Term 3):
An impressive 33 students attended Stadium SA, with Callum C, William G, Sophia N, and Emily G selected as South West District representatives. Notably, William G’s remarkable performance led to his selection for the South Australian State Team, earning him the honour of representing our state at the National Championships in Canberra, a remarkable individual achievement and a moment of pride for our entire school community.
Selection Team Carnivals
- AFL Boys (Term 1):
Our boys had a stellar day at Westminster College, remaining undefeated and besting tough competition, including the home team. Oscar T was selected for the South West District team. Thanks to Marek for his coaching support. - Netball (Term 2):
Both our boys’ and girls’ teams made finals at Netball SA Stadium. While this was a participation event, the teams’ progress was a testament to their commitment. Sincere thanks to Kate S for coaching the girls’ team. - Soccer (Term 2):
Our players demonstrated skill and perseverance at Barrett Reserves, with Lotte M and Phoebe N securing places in the South West District state team. Thanks to Stazz and Marek for their coaching efforts. - Basketball (Year 5/6):
The girls’ team placed second in pool stages, and the boys’ team achieved third overall. Thanks go to Phoebe and Aaron for their support and coaching.
General Sport Carnivals
- Lacrosse Carnival (Term 1):
Brighton fielded an incredible 12 teams (91 students) and reached all four final matches after the group stage, ultimately winning three out of four finals. This speaks volumes about the commitment and talent across our cohorts. - NRL Tackle Rugby (Years 3–6):
Outstanding participation, with 7 teams (98 students) in Years 3/4 and 6 teams (53 students) in Year 6. Three teams won Values awards for Fair Play, Inclusion, and Respect, with one team taking home the overall Values award for Years 5/6. - NRL Tag Rugby:
We showed great spirit and sportsmanship, winning Values awards in both the Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 competitions, including the overall Values award at Reynella East College. - NRL Tackle Rugby Term 4 Invitational:
Both boys’ and girls’ teams went undefeated, winning the overall Values shield and trophy. This demonstrates not only skill but also a strong culture of respect and fair play.
Individual State/District Selections
Beyond carnival selection, we also celebrate students who were chosen for South West teams through alternative selection pathways:
- Oscar T and Ollie T for SAPSASA Cricket
- Henry S for Hockey
- Dusty D for AFL Football
A special congratulations to William G for exceptional athletic achievement and state representation at the national level, an inspiration to all Brighton students.
We are proud of every student who has trained, competed, and represented our school with effort, enthusiasm, and respect, and we thank all staff and parents for their support. We extend our sincere thanks to Jeff for his outstanding coordination and leadership of our exceptional sporting program. His dedication and commitment have played a crucial role in fostering both participation and excellence, ensuring our students thrive and achieve their best in all sporting endeavours.
