Wait Mate
Have you ever heard “but all of my friends have a phone!’ and wondered if this is true?
Wait Mate is a not for profit movement empowering parents to hit pause on smartphones until at least high school. They connect you with like-minded families in your child’s school year who have taken the pledge to delay the giving of smartphones to their children. We already have parents in the Brighton school community who have taken the pledge.
Why take the pledge?
There are many reasons that are backed by research into effects of social media, building respectful relationships, childhood anxiety, addictive behaviours and lack of activity.
On 10 December 2025, the South Australian Government announced support for Wait Mate to help make the movement available to all parents of primary and high school students across the state. Have a look at what this means for all of us Bing Videos
