Weekly Wrap Up

Dear Families,

The Year 6 camp was the big highlight of Week 7, and we are thinking of the staff and students as they fly home from Canberra tonight. Their week was fast-paced and action packed as they explored many of our national treasures. Stay tuned for a full review!

Back on site at Brighton, our Year 3 and 5 students undertook NAPLAN testing this week with a focus on reading, writing, numeracy, spelling and grammar. We know that tests tell us about what a student can do at a particular point in time, but they certainly don’t tell us everything! We are proud how students showed resilience and persistence in their approach to the tests and we celebrate the extensive range of talents that they have.

On Wednesday our formidable Parents and Friends committee met to finalise plans for the Student Disco next Friday night, and the Colour Fun Run on the last day of term. We are raising funds for water stations that offer chilled and filtered water to students with faucets suitable for filling water bottles. Some of our students have gotten on board to develop promo videos and we look forward to their unveiling next week to help build momentum toward our $22,000 target. Remember to jump on board and register to be a part of the fun!

Did you know that the newly rennovated Tarni Wara building (formerly known as the shelter shed) is accessible to students during recess and lunch? We offer activities such as lego, card games, craft and disco dancing for students who would like to join in for part or all of lunch. It has been a bonus to make the most of this airconditioned facility with the recent heat.

Remember that our Harmony Day Celebration is this Thursday at 12.15 on the oval. It will include a performance from our 80-student strong signing choir followed by a picnic lunch together. Its the day to adorn traditional dress or a splash of orange to celebrate the diversity within our community.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Jo Meredith
