Each year in term 3, year 1 students in all Department for Education schools, take part in a short screening check to see how they are progressing with their phonics; an important skill in learning to read. Our year 1 teachers are currently administering this check individually with all year 1 learners. This check provides teachers with valuable information about children’s progress and children’s next steps. This check is only one way teachers check on student progress. Our Year 1 teachers conduct regular progress monitoring to check on children’s phonic knowledge. This way we can be confident that all children are progressing.
