Dear Families,

A very warm welcome to Brighton Primary School and Centre of Deaf Education. Brighton Primary School first opened in 1877. Since that time, the school has gained a reputation and developed a proud history of providing high quality teaching and learning to the students. The school has been educating Deaf and Hard of Hearing children for over 50 years. Today, the Centre of Deaf Education is known for educating Deaf and Hard of Hearing children in an inclusive mainstream setting where Deaf culture and Auslan is celebrated.

Our school is at the heart of the ‘Brighton’ community. We provide opportunities for connection, learning and celebration, nurturing positive relationships among children, staff, families and the wider community. We foster a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere where every member feels valued and engaged. This strong sense of community not only enhances the educational experience but also cultivates lasting friendships and partnerships that enrich our school culture.

Our values of Respect, Inclusivity, Empathy and Excellence underpin everything we do. We pride ourselves on fostering an inclusive community where children have a strong sense of belonging and are empowered to succeed.

Recognising that every child is unique, we take the time to understand their individual strengths, passions and challenges. Our teaching and learning programs are responsive to the needs of the children. Our learning hub model personalises the learning experience for children and their families.

We empower children with the dispositions, capabilities and knowledge they need to thrive in a constantly changing world. Through evidence informed teaching practices and a rich array of learning expereinces, including camps, incursions and excursions, we enrich children’s learning journey.

The school is committed to developing the ‘whole child’ and fostering a sense of belonging. Our wide range of extra curricula activities supports this endeavour. These additional curricula activities include: SAPSASA, Junior and Senior Choir, Strings Program, Pedal Prix, Mark Oliphant Science Awards, Astronomy Club and after school sport. These opportunities enable students to develop specific skills, explore new passions, work as a team and experience success.

The partnership with parents and families is an important aspect of our school and we welcome your participation. Education is a shared responsibility which is most effective when families and educators work together. Parents are welcome to volunteer throughout the school by participating in excursions and sports coaching, volunteering in the canteen and library, or joining the Parent and Friends or Governing Council and associated sub committees.

Together, we will make a difference for your child. We look forward to working in partnership with you during these formative years of your child’s education.

Warm Regards,

Rebecca Read
